Tuesday's Tool Tip - Stampin' Write Markers and a card

Thought I would try something different with my Tuesday's Tool Tips.  I've decided to include a card using the featured tool.  For this week, it's the Stampin' Writer Markers.

Quick Trick:

• For a soft watercolor look, outline your image with a Stampin' Write Marker, and then use a Blender Pen, Aqua Painter, or water-dampened watercolor brush to pull and blend the marker colors into the area you desire.
• You can custom-color images by coloring directly on the stamp (which I've done in the sentiment image above - in the colors Cherry Cobbler and Basic Gray).  Use the flexible brush tip on its side to shade and blend colors right on the rubber.  The fine point lets you easily color small areas of the stamp.  You can omit parts of the design b coloring only those features you want to stamp.

Tuesday's Tips

Today, we're going to talk about a relatively new item (Occasions Mini) and an oldie but goodie.

1. Glimmer Paper

Add red glitter to your projects without the clean-up!  You can cut this into fun shapes with rule based Big Shot dies or any of our cutting tools.

I've made several cards using the circle scissor plus -  here's an oldie.

Quick Trick

• If you love the look of circle frames,you don't need to buy separate die cut circle frames or rings.  When cutting rings, first cut the smaller circle (or the center of the ring); don't move the cutter.  Make sure it stays in place while you adjust the size for the outside circle of your ring, then cut again.
• Keeping the cutter in place the whole time is the key to making perfect rings.  You'll end up with a custom frame or ring in the size and color you want.

FYI

• Always use with the Glass Mat.  using the Circle Scissor Plus with a self-healing mat may produce poor results.  Glass mats allow the blade to "float" across the cutting surface for a cleaner, better cut
• Adhere your paper to the Glass Mat with dotto to prevent it from slipping on the mat.
• The Circle Scissor Plus works best when you're standing up.  This helps distribute the weight and pressure on the cutter evenly.
• Avoid pushing down too hard.

Today's tips include the Blender Pen and the Bone Folder

Quick Trick:

1. To use a blender pen to create a watercolor effect, color or outline a stamped image with any of the above mediums.  Pull and blend the colors with the blender pen.
2. You can also dip the blender pen into Stampin' Pastels or Classic Stampin' Pads and apply directly to paper.

FYI

To clean the tip, simply scribble on white paper.  Discolored tis will not affect performance.

Masculine Monday

Good Morning Stampers

Today's card is for my other grandson Troy whose birthday is on Wednesday, 31 March.  I also added a star on his card because all my grandchildren are stars in my eyes.

These extreme sports/hobbies stamps by Stampin' Up! (like Extreme Guitar and Extreme Skateboard) are perfect for that special someone between the ages of 10 and 21 when it's so hard to make a card for them - at least something you think they will like!

What I did:

1. Again I used the Sweet Pea Designer Series Paper Pack from the Occasions Mini Catalog.  With 48 sheets of design paper, you are bound to find the perfect paper for your card.
2. I used the Extreme Guitar Stamp which is available during the Sale-a-bration promotion for FREE with every $50.00 purchase.  I stamped the image with Basic Black Craft Ink, added Black Emboss Powder and heated with heat gun for a shimmery finished look. 
3. I next stamped over the main image with with Extreme Elements in Bermuda Bay.
4. I also used the same stamp image from Extreme Elements over the sentiment.  This was punched out using the Modern Label punch.  The 2nd layer (Bermuda Bay card stock) is from the Mover and Shakers Bigz Die.
5. Adhered all the layers together and added the star and sentiment with Stampin Dimensionals.

Manhattan Flower

Good Morning Stampers!

 

This is one of the cards the ladies will be making at the New Techniques class on Wednesday, 3 February.  The technique is called  Reverse Textured Embossing (I think!)  It's where you ink up the textured embossing folder, insert card stock and then feed it through the Bit Shot.  This is what comes out. 

For this technique, I used Melon Mambo  on Whisper White card stock.  I really liked the way it came out.  It doesn't show in the photo but there are variations of the color throughout the front.    NOTE:  When brayering the embossing folder you have to be careful and brayer the side that forms the embossed recessed surface.

The sentiment was stamped with Melon Mambo on Whisper White card stock and punched out using the Large Oval punch.  The 2nd layer is Melon Mambo card stock punched out using the Designer Label punch.  It was added to the card with stampin' dimensionals to make it pop out.

I'll post the other card tomorrow - it uses the same technique but the colors I used for that card are Elegant Eggplant and Old Olive (one of my favorite color combinations!).

A True Friend

Thought I'd take a break from the Halloween cards and Christmas cards.  I just finished the Christmas card for week 4 of my "12 weeks of Christmas" campaign.  Not too late to sign up for my newsletter if you haven't already done so.  Newsletter signup box is on the upper left side of this blog.

This card features the Lovely Flowers Bundle, Hostess Level 3.   

The designer series paper is from the same Level 3 Hostess Bundle.  I stamped the sentiment in Rich Razzleberry and then punched it out using the Curly Label.  The border around the label is from the Curly Label Movers and Shapers.  The center piece (Rich Razzleberry) was run through the Big Shot using the Texture Plate Kit #4.

• Layer 1 or Base Card:  Cut Melon Mambo card stock to 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" and fold in half using a bone folder for a sharp crease.
• Layer 2:  Cut Designer Series Paper to 5 3/8" x 4 1/8"
• Layer 3:  Cut Rich  Razzleberry card stock to 5 3/8" x 2" and run through the Big Shot using the Texture Plate Kit #4
• Layer 4:  Take a piece of Rich Razzleberry card stock and run through the Big Shot using the Curly Label Movers and Shapers die
• Layer 5:  Take a piece of Whisper White card stock and stamp the sentiment in Rich Razzleberry and punch out with the Curly Label punch
• Assemble as shown in photo

Bloomin' Beautiful

Gretchen Barron has started featuring a card sketch on her blog every Thursday.  I decided to participate in her first challenge.  Here's the sketch

Here's my card

I used Perfect Plum Patterns Designer Series Paper; the color theme was Perfect Plum and Whisper White - not quite monochromatic.  The main image was stamped in Black Stazon, colored with a blender pen and Perfect Plum Classic Ink (for the lighter shade) and in the Perfect Plum Stampin' Write Marker for the darker areas.  The centers of the flowers are colored in Summer Sun; the leaves with the Old Olive Stampin' Write Markers and the vase with the Sahara Sand Stampin' Write Marker.

• Layer 1:  Base Card - Cut Perfect Plum card stock to 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 and fold in half using a bone folder for a sharp crease.
• Layer 2:  Cut Perfect Plum Patterns DSP to 5 1/4 x 4 and adhere to base card
• Layer 3:  Cut Perfect Plum card stock to 5 1/4 x 2 1/4 and punch border with the Scallop Border Punch
• Layer 4:  Cut Perfect Plum Patterns DSP to 5 1/4 x 1 3/4 and adhere to layer 3.  Adhere layers 3 & 4 to base card as shown in photo
• Attach white ribbon as shown in photo
• Layer 5:  Cut Whisper White card stock with Circle Scissors Plus and adhere as shown in photo.  Trim left side
• Take scrap of Whisper White card stock and stamp image using Black Stazon.  Color in image.  Using Paper Snips cut out image and mount on card stock using Stampin' Dimensionals - see photo for placement.
• Add half pearls from Pretties Kit

Stamp-a-ma-jig

I belong to the Business Stampers Coaching Group and one of our challenges was to write a post about an essential stamping tool.  I selected the Stamp-a-ma-jig because I think it's the most misunderstood tool in the catalog.

I was at first intimidated by this tool but the more I use it the more I am comfortable with it.  I have to say that I love this tool.  I've owned it since 2004 and just recently started using it on my projects.  I can't believe it took me this long to use it.  The stamp-a-ma-jig is easy to use and works every time.  This is the perfect tool to keep you from ever ruining a whole project with one crooked image. 

 I bought mine when I first became a demonstrator so the one I own is not the black but a burgundy color.  I thought I would post some simple directions to show you how easy it is to use.

 

1.  Color the solid image and stamp on card stock

  I

2.  Color the outline stamp.

3.  Place the image sheet securely in the corner of the stamp-a-ma-jig. 

4.  Align the stamp snugly in the corner and stamp onto the image sheet.

 

5.  Position the image sheet over the solid flower to align the outline stamp.

6.  Snugly fit the stamp-a-ma-jig in the corner of the image sheet

7.  Hold the stamp-a-ma-jig firmly and carefully remove the image sheet.

  

8.  Firmly hold in place, align the outline stamp snugly in the corner of the stamp-a-ma-jig and stamp onto the solid image.  Voila - perfect stamp placement every time!

 

9.  Always clean your image sheet using a baby wipe.

 

10. Finish your card.
